Here it is, the last of the Ontario Craft Brewers 2011 Holiday Discovery Pack. I won’t lie; I was excited to try this beer. The award-winning Black Oak Nut Brown Ale just looks…delicious. It poured a clear brown, with a light tan head. Wonderful nutty aromas, malts, chocolates and light hops. A light and sweet palate, smooth and easy to drink, an all-around enjoyable beer and a great way to finish off the pack.
Today, we look at the second last bottle of the OCB Holiday Discovery Pack: Trafalgar Ales & Meads Smoked Oatmeal Stout! Poured black, with a thin tan head. Slight aromas of chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. Fairly carbonated, and tastes as it smells. Was expecting more smokiness as the name suggests but did not notice any.
Holy Hops Batman! Strong citra hop flavours explode out of this tasty IPA from Muskoka Brewery, part of the OCB Holiday Discovery Pack. Mad Tom IPA pours a hazy amber colour, with a creamy white head, with strong aromas of citrus and pine. For those used to light beers it will be quite the experience.
After a long week, I jump back into the OCB 2011 Holiday Discovery Pack starting with F&M Brewery’s Stone Hammer Dark Ale, a delicious 5% ABV brown ale with strong chocolate, nut characteristics, and smooth finish. Continue Reading…
Continuing with the OCB 2011 Holiday Discovery Pack, tonight we are trying Better Bitters Brewing Co.‘s – Nickel Brook Ale. A 5% ABV Amber Ale, this beer is characterized by a malty sweetness that is punctuated by mild hop characteristics. It pours a hazy amber, with a lasting thick tan head. Aromas are dominated by malts, caramel, slight hints of toffee. Tastes of caramel, slightly biscuity, some hops present in the background. Medium mouth-feel, smooth finish. Sweet, and enjoyable. As promised, today I am featuring one of the beers from the Ontario Craft Brewers Holiday Discovery Pack as I posted here. With no particular order in mind I picked out Old Credit Brewing Co.’s Old Credit Amber Ale. I will give my impressions of the beer, but will not grade it, I am not a beer judge. A bit of a twist: I will also have my wife Nicole, a non-beer drinker, discuss her thoughts on the beer. So, with no further delay Continue Reading…
